Sheffield Springs Academy project description:
Sheffield Springs Academy is a prominent secondary school in Sheffield. They embarked on a creative journey to revitalise their school environment using wall art. The school’s leadership sought to transform their learning space, adding vibrant and educational elements to captivate and inspire students. For this innovative project, Sheffield Springs Academy partnered with our team at Design for Education.
Wall art display, design objectives:
The school’s objectives for this project were distinctive and forward-thinking:
Atrium transformation: A standout feature was the creation of a captivating cityscape of Sheffield within the atrium. This detailed mural included all the city’s main focal points, alongside a section highlighting what makes Sheffield famous, including its iconic Henderson Relish and renowned local personalities.
Embracing multiculturalism: Sheffield Springs Academy aimed to celebrate its diverse student body through art. The project was designed to reflect the school’s multicultural and inclusive ethos.
Classroom wrap: A significant element of the project was the complete transformation of classroom spaces. This encompassed the Mathematics, Science, and English classrooms, including windows and cupboards. This innovative approach aimed to create immersive and engaging learning environments.
Our project with Sheffield Springs Academy stood out for its creativity and inclusivity. The decision to wrap entire classrooms represented a unique and immersive approach to engaging students through art and learning.

At Design for Education, we take immense pride in our role to help schools like Sheffield Springs Academy breathe new life into their environment and create engaging spaces for their students. Our commitment to innovative and purpose-driven design continues to drive transformative experiences in educational settings.
TRANSFORMATION: PHASE 2
We were thrilled to be working with Sheffield Springs Academy again on Phase 2 of their school revitalisation project, specifically focusing on wall art. Building on the achievements of previous artwork, this phase was to enhance areas related to Physical Education (P.E.) and the Art curriculum, while also prominently displaying the school’s core values.
The school’s wall art project aimed to:
- P.E. Department: Energise and inspire students by showcasing athletes and promoting teamwork, perseverance, healthy living, fitness, discipline, and personal growth.
- Art Department: Celebrate creativity and self-expression by highlighting famous artists, art movements, and diverse cultures to inspire students and deepen their appreciation for art.
- Core Values: Instill school values through visually striking word clouds displayed prominently throughout the school to foster a sense of pride
As the school continues its transformation, Design for Education looks forward to evolving its partnership to further inspire students through art. The ongoing project exemplifies how thoughtful design can create an uplifting and engaging learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential.
