Phonics
At Hayfield Lane we pride ourselves on our
commitment to teaching phonics and follow the
Read,Write Inc programme from Foundation 2
toYear 1 to give our children a systematic and
structured approach to Literacy. This runs alongside
other strategies to help develop vital reading
and writing strategies in order for our children to
become fluent readers.
Phonics teaching begins from the beginning of
Foundation One and follows the ReadWrite Inc
programme from Foundation Two, ensuring children
know the grapheme (letter) and the corresponding
phoneme (sound) it makes. Children are grouped
according to their ability so that we can ensure that
children make rapid and sustained progress and
provide support and intervention where necessary.
