French

French is currently taught in KeyStage 2.

Music

All children haveweeklymusic lessons and throughoutYear

4, children have tuition in an instrument through theWider

Opportunities scheme.

Physical Education

All children take part in at least two hours of PEweeklyboth

indoors and outdoors. InYear 3 children have swimming

lessons at a local Leisure Centre, andYears 4, 5 and 6 have

the opportunity to attend catch up sessions during the year,

working towards the government requirements for all children

to have the ability to swimat least 25m.

Wewelcome parents and carers to our annual sports day in July.

Environmental Education

Our large playground, extensive fields, woodland, and natural

meadowmean that many aspects of environmental education

take place in our own

grounds.We

also have allotmentswhere

the children growfruit andvegetables.

Emotional Well-being

At Holmes Chapel PrimarySchool we recognise the importance

of emotional wellbeing and howmuch a child’s emotional

health andwellbeing influences their cognitive development

and learning, aswell as their physical and social health and

theirmental wellbeing in adulthood. Our curriculumpositively

promoteswellbeing and resilience.

Educational and Residential visits

Our curriculum is enriched by trips out of school aswell as by

visits to school fromexperts. InYears 4, 5 and 6 the children

have the opportunity to go on a residential trip.

Inclusion

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinatorworkswith the

class teachers, teamof teaching assistants and parents/carers to

provide any additional support needed for childrenwith special

education needs.

We also ensure that ourmore able children are challenged and

extended bywork set in class aswell as having opportunities to

take part in additional learning activities organisedwith other

local schools.

Wework hard to ensure that childrenwith disabilities have

equal access to the curriculumas far as possible. Parentswhose

children have any formof disability are encouraged tomake an

appointment toviewthe school and discuss their child’s needs.

Learning Mentor

Our LearningMentorworkswith staffand parents/carers to

provide additional support for childrenwith social, emotional

and behavioural needs.

Extra Curricular Activities

We provide awidevarietyof extra curricular clubs and activities,

with clubs running before and after school and at lunchtimes.

There are opportunities to sing and play instruments aswell

as privatemusic lessons byvisiting teachers. The school

encourages children to take part in sport and our teams

competewith other local schools in sports such as football (girls

and boys), cross country, netball and boccia. Art, gymnastics,

maths and gardening clubs are also offered.
