Our school

Holmes Chapel PrimarySchool is a CommunitySchool with an age range of

4 to

11years.We

have twomixed ability classes in eachyear group.

EarlyYears Foundation Stage (Reception)

Our EYFS teamwork closelywith all of our feeder pre schools, nurseries

and childminders to help each child settle happily into our Reception

classes. The childrenmake a number of visits to school before they

start in September and initially they come to school on a part time

basis. This allows time for the children and staff to get to knoweach

other.We

have an information evening and coffeemornings to

welcome newparents to our school community and to give parents

information about howthey can best support their child’s learning.

The two Reception classrooms are linked and the children also have

access to their own creative roomaswell as a dedicated outdoor

learning and play area.

Joining school after Reception

If your child joins the school after Reception or partway through the

school year, youwill be invited tovisit the school withyour child to

meet the class teacher and the other children.Wewill contact your

child’s previous school to ask for information thatwill help tomake

your child’s transition as seamless as possible.

Key Stages 1 and 2

Throughout KeyStage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and KeyStage 2 (Years 3 to

6) the children’s progress ismonitored to ensure each child reaches

his/her full potential. InYear 6 the children complete SATs in English

andMaths.

In eachyear group, the teacherswork closely together, supported by teaching

assistants, to ensure the same curriculum is covered across both classes.

Transfer to Secondary School

Themajorityof our pupils transfer toHolmes Chapel Comprehensive

have long

established linkswith the Comprehensive School; children inYears 5 and 6 have several

talk to the children about their transition.
