Children learn in different ways. Some children
learn predominantly through doing, being active,
(kinaesthetic), other children learn by looking,
(visual), other children by listening, (aural).
With the majority of children learning from a
combination of all three. At Royd we are aware of
and use teaching methods that allow your child
to learn best and feel included in the learning
process.
We encourage and support these different ways of
learning through a stimulating curriculum.
In Nursery and Reception this means a play based
curriculum that encourages children to explore,
question and become resilient learners.
At Key Stage 1 all of these principles continue
including problem solving, communication and
ICT skills.
The Learning Journals that encapsulate your
child’s learning and journey of accomplishments
begin in Nursery and continue in Reception. They
will become a treasured keepsake when your child
takes them home in Year 1.
Special Educational Needs
The School works within the National Code
of Practice for Children with Special Educational
Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It is the aim
of the School that children with SEND should
be fully included in all aspects of School life.
In some cases this is with the support of the
Local Authority. In order to assist children with
special educational needs and disabilities,
specific work is planned to meet their individual
requirements. Meeting with parents plays a
crucial role in this process.
For a small percentage of children who
experience specific difficulties that cannot be
accommodated in School, it is necessary to have
a formal assessment of their needs. This only
happens after full consultation and consent from
parents/carers.
