All students at St Mary’s College have the opportunity to participate in two hours

per week of high quality curriculum physical education. They experience a variety of

activities and have the opportunity at Key Stage 4 and 5 to study a wide range of

academic and vocational qualifications. This was recognised by OFSTED who judged

the department as “outstanding” in June 2011. This was reinforced by a further

Ofsted “outstanding” judgement in 2014 on the quality of school sport competition

available at St Mary’s College and two Gold School Games Marks in 2015/2016 and

2016/2017.

An extensive range of extra-curricular sporting activities is offered. Students have

opportunities to develop a healthy and active lifestyle and participate in a structured

pathway of competitive sport from inter-house competitions through to school

representative sport after school in over 20 different activities. Many students gain

individual and team honours at district, county, regional and national competitions. We

have active partnerships with all 3 professional sports clubs in the city, Hull City, Hull FC

and Hull KR and close links with many of the leading amateur clubs in the area, many of

whom choose to deliver from our stunning sports facilities.

Outstanding Enrichment

This is a very exciting time for the Performing Arts Faculty. We boast a rich tradition

of high class music, plays and productions. Our designated ‘Theatre of Dreams’ is

recognised by our partners at the Royal Shakespeare Company as the best school

theatre in the country.

Annual productions include: full-scale musicals, Level 3 BTEC Improvisation Evening,

Dance shows, Rock Challenge, KS3 productions & an Autumn Concert to name a few.

Our year rounds up with our SMArts Festival which sees professional artistes from across

the Performing Arts delivering world class performances and workshops. We are very

proud of our reputation as a Performing Arts Centre of Excellence.

Performing Arts

As the world becomes increasingly interlinked and local communities become more

diverse, St Mary’s is in a fantastic position to prepare our students to become true

global citizens, who can contribute positively wherever they may live and work.

St Mary’s College is extremely proud of our status as an International School, and

the many benefits that this brings to the school community.

Since re-designation of the International School Award in 2017, St Mary’s College

staff and students have been involved in many exciting and diverse projects that

have deepened our understanding of different countries and cultures around

the world.
